Study Abroad

Study abroad is one of the best ways to gain an in-depth experience of another country and culture, and you can also get credit towards your degree while doing so.

If you are considering studying abroad, there are many University of Michigan offices that can help, starting with the U-M International Center's Overseas Opportunities Office and the Office of International Programs (OIP).

The International Center's Overseas Opportunities Office provides a central source for finding study abroad opportunities through all U-M units, as well as through other institutions. This office also provides a peer advisor service, staffed by U-M students who have extensive experience studying and working abroad and are trained to offer guidance and tips to help you select a study abroad experience that best meets your interests. Contact the Overseas Opportunity Office by calling the U-M International Center or icoverseas@umich.edu.

The Office of International Programs (OIP) administers the largest number of U-M sponsored study abroad programs. Undergraduates especially will want to consider OIP programs.

The University of Michigan offices that offer study abroad programs include the short-term Global Intercultural Experience for Undergraduates (GIEU) program; programs available to all students through the University's area-studies centers and language departments; and programs for students in specific U-M Schools and Colleges such as those for Art and Design, Architecture and Urban Planning, Business, Engineering, Law, and the various health professions.
