Inoculations for Overseas Travel
Inoculations
Inoculations are an important part of ensuring your health and safety overseas. Inoculation requirements and recommendations vary greatly from region to region. In general, no inoculations are necessary for travelers to Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia, or New Zealand. Some may be suggested for other parts of the world depending on your length of stay and exact destination.
U-M students should review the University Health Service (UHS) Travel Health Services for advice. It's best to schedule an appointment months before your departure because some shots must be administered in a series over a period of time.
For basic information, see Shots
for Travel from the University Health System (UHS) web site.
National information can be found at the of the Centers for Disease Control,Travelers' Health section.
The following list should help you prepare for your inoculations:
- Begin inoculation procedures as soon as possible.
- Call weeks in advance to make an appointment; no walk-ins accepted.
- Bring your immunization records, if available.
- Call your health insurance company to see if any inoculations are covered.
