Peace Corps Recruiter: Mary served as a Health Extension volunteer from 2012-2014 in the southern highlands of Tanzania. While serving with the Peace Corps she focused on working alongside local primary school students through youth empowerment conferences and health educational training utilizing soccer as a medium. In collaboration with the village of Likarangilo, together they set up a water tank at the local clinic to increase access to clean drinking water, specifically to new or expecting mothers. She was able to work alongside community members and other Peace Corps Agriculture volunteers on a chicken husbandry project aimed at increasing food security, nutrition, and income generation. She also served on the inaugural Gender Equality committee and created several short videos for usage showcasing successful training and cross-cultural exchange. She is currently studying at University of Michigan as a Peace Corps Coverdell Fellow while she earns her Master in Social Work. She continues to work with many of the women of Tanzania she was lucky enough to build relationships with selling their cooperative's crafts here in the US.
