Mandatory Immigration Check-in for Students
Overview of Immigration Check-in
During the check-in program you will:
Please arrive 15 minutes before the program start time.
The check-in session will last approximately two and a half hours (one hour for Returning/Change Of Level students), and you must attend the entire session. Your dependents are not required to attend. If you do not have the required documents or if you arrive late, you will NOT be allowed to attend the session and you will have to reschedule your appointment.

Things to Do Before You Attend the Check-In Session
Make two copies of each of your immigration documents (one copy is for you, the other is for the International Center). There are several places where you can make photocopies:
If you are an undergraduate student, your check-in session will be part of the International Undergraduate Orientation co-sponsored by the Office of New Student Programs and the International Center. Rackham Graduate Students

The check-in session for Rackham Graduate Students is on August 21, 2014. There will be multiple sessions offered on this day; you are only required to attend one session. To register for your check-in session, please go to:

Non-Rackham Graduate Students
If you are pursuing a Masters or a Doctorate degree and you are not part of the Rackham Graduate School, then your check-in session will be coordinated with your individual department. Please see the table below for more details on when your check-in session will take place. For more information on the session itself and/or how to register, please contact your department.
Returning and Change of Level Students
If you have previously attended the University of Michigan as an F-1 or J-1 student and are now returning either to complete your degree or to start a brand new degree program, you may be eligible to complete a Returner/COL check-in session.
This session will last approximately 1 hour. During this session, you will listen to a 5-10 minute refresher presentation and then an International Student Advisor will review your documents and issue you a travel signature. To register for one of these sessions, please click the link below:
You may ONLY register for one of these sessions if you meet the criteria listed above. If you register and you are not eligible, you will be refused entry upon arrival.
Students should make every possible attempt to attend the check-in that they are scheduled for (see above). If you do miss your check-in session, you MUST attend a make-up session with our office. Once you miss your assigned check-in session, you will receive an e-mail from our office with information on how to register for a make-up session. You may also register at the link below.
If you fail to attend a mandatory immigration check-in session, you will lose your immigration status and your ability to study in the United States. Please take care of this requirement as soon as possible!
Returner/Change of Level students
If you have missed the check-in session that you signed up for, please visit the link below to sign up for another Returner/Change of Level check-in session. You MUST complete one of these sessions in order to maintain your F-1 or J-1 status. Please remember that the sessions at the link below are ONLY for Returner or Change of Level students.
