The Office of Management and Budget’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs has completed its review of the proposed rule on Duration of Status The rule is now designated as “consistent with change”, meaning that some changes were made during the review. We do not know yet what those changes entail nor how they will impact international students and scholars.
The next step is the publication of the final regulation in the Federal Register The publication date has not been released. However, we expect that there will be a 60-day implementation period after the publication date before the rule takes effect.
After the publication of the final rule, the International Center will review and analyze the rule. We will then provide information to students and scholars impacted by the rule and to U-M departments. We also plan to offer a series of webinars for students, scholars and departments on the rule. The webinars will be announced via email and through announcements on our website.
