Due to the support of generous donors, the International Center is excited to announce the creation of the S&S Scholarship Fund for International Students.
This fund aims to assist in removing financial barriers that could prevent international students from completing their U-M degree.
Please note: Due to its timeline, this scholarship may not be able to provide funding for urgent financial needs. If immediate financial support is required, please refer to the Student Funding webpage for general resources.
Eligibility
- Degree-seeking international students at U-M Ann Arbor
- Enrolled full-time in the current term
- From African or Asian nations
- Hold F-1 or J-1 student visa status
- Students must be in good immigration standing for the semester for which they are seeking funding.
Selection Preferences
- Students with financial need who are STEM majors (see list)
- Undergraduate students
- Students who have not received this scholarship in the past
- Students without significant institutional or external funding (e.g. GSI/GSSA/GSRA positions, fellowships, governmental or other scholarships, or emergency funds)
Funding Uses
The S&S Scholarship Fund for International Students can be used to fund expenses including but not limited to:
- Tuition and fees
- Housing
- Food
- Healthcare expenses
- Other emergency needs
Award Amount
- Individual award generally ranges from $5,000-$12,000

Process and Disbursement
- Applicants should complete the S&S Scholarship Fund for International Students Application and include all appropriate and relevant supporting documentation.
- A committee will review completed applications and notify awardees according to the dates in the “Application Timeline” section.
- Applicants who are not selected for an award will see the “Not Awarded” status in the application portal.
- Students granted awards must accept the scholarship by the deadline indicated in the award notification.
- If there is an outstanding balance on the student account when funding is awarded, the funding will automatically be applied to the balance first. Exceptions may be considered by the Review Committee.
- Awarded funding given to support tuition expenses will be directly applied to student account fees in Fall, Winter, or Spring/Summer semesters based upon enrollment and application timeline.
Grant Taxes
