An optional dental plan is available to international students and scholars.
Students and scholars enrolled in the International Student/Scholar Insurance Plan (IHI) do have some dental coverage (details on pages 22 and 23 of the Member Guide). International students and scholars who would like additional dental coverage can enroll in this optional plan.
The plan will be effective August 1, 2026 through July 30, 2027 and you will need to enroll for an entire year. You can enroll in the plan until September 30, 2026, but the coverage (and charges) will begin August 1.
Students and scholars who are eligible for U-M faculty/staff benefits, such as GradCare or Premier Care, should not enroll in this plan. Instead, choose a U-M faculty/staff dental plan.
For more information and enrollment links, see the University Health & Counseling (UHC) website. Be sure to read this information carefully before enrolling in the plan.
Note that students and scholars who do not have a Social Security Number will not use the enrollment links. Instead they should contact Delta Dental directly for enrollment assistance at 800-971-4108. When they call, the agent will ask them for their name, date of birth, address and what type of coverage (single, family, etc.). During the call, they will be enrolled in the plan and will have a Delta Dental ID number assigned to them.
