Empowerment Self-Defense Workshop

You are invited to take control of their personal safety by learning physical and verbal strategies to counter violence through our empowerment self-defense workshops.

The workshop, led by Sexual Harassment and Rape Prevention (SHARP)-certified instructors, aim to teach participants situational awareness and prevention skills to leave them better equipped to deal with everything from harassment to potentially violent people to sexual assault. Participants will take part in verbal exercises, physical drills and discussion.

Engineering U.S. Job Search for International Students

International students bring valuable talents to the U.S. job market, from cross-cultural insights and language skills to a global outlook that enriches any workplace. Yet, navigating the U.S. job market can be very stressful! The Engineering Career Resource Center (ECRC) and the International Center are co-hosting an informative workshop to help you be better equipped for the job search.

How to Talk about Immigration Status to Employer

As an international student, it is important for you to practice how to bring up your immigration status during the interviews of the recruitment process. This guide is not used for filling out your online application. We will be focusing on how to bring up your status or ways to address it with an employer during an interview. This workshop will give you the opportunity to interactively practice your script with your peers and present yourself in the workplace. This workshop is presented by the International Center and University Career Center.

60 Minutes Around the Globe: Kazakhstan

60 Minutes Around the Globe is a program series hosted by the International House Ann Arbor (IHAA) and the International Center where members of the international community share a brief presentation about the culture and history of their home country. The presentation is followed by a time for discussion and enjoying light refreshments. Join us on Friday, September 12 at 2:00 PM as we learn about the culture and history of Kazakhstan at the International House Ann Arbor (921 Church Street). Snacks and refreshments will be served!

American Football 101

American football is a very popular sport in the U.S. U-M has one of the oldest football programs in the country and is home to Michigan Stadium (nicknamed “The Big House”). Many college students like to spend Saturdays watching college football, and attending on-campus sporting events is one way to show school spirit.

September International Coffee Hour

International Coffee Hour is a great opportunity to meet new people from around the world! The event is open to all members of the U-M community, including international and U.S. students, scholars, faculty, staff and their partners.

Our September event will be held in partnership with Information Technology Services (ITS). ITS staff will be in attendance to share resources and answer any questions you might have! This month’s coffee hour will feature an ice cream bar (while supplies last).
