David joined the University of Michigan in 2013 and currently serves as the Assistant Director for Faculty and Staff Immigration Services at the IC. Before joining the university, David held similar roles at the University of Chicago and Virginia Tech. He’s originally from the Netherlands where he earned two degrees including one in Language and Culture Studies with a focus on American Studies. After graduate school, he taught English as a Second Language and Intercultural Communication. He participated in several J-1 exchange programs, including a semester as an exchange student in Michigan. David speaks several languages, including Dutch, German and some very rusty French. He is a frequent speaker on employment-based immigration issues, served on the regional NAFSA leadership teams for two regions and currently volunteers on the national International Student and Scholar Regulatory Practice Committee. In his free time, David likes playing board games, traveling, playing hockey (aka field hockey) and soccer.
