Description: Welcome all new U-M student and scholar families! Join the International Center, the Center for the Education of Women+ (CEW+), Michigan Caregivers and Student Parents (MCaSP), the Mary A. Rackham Institute's University Center for the Child and Family (UCCF), U-M’s Children’s Center, and Northwood Graduate & Family Housing for a welcome dinner at the Northwood Community Center Multipurpose Room (1000 McIntyre Drive).

Description: Come play another pick-up soccer game with the IC! The game will be played indoors at the Sports Coliseum on a hard court (much like futsal).

This will be a very casual game and is meant for meeting other international students and scholars. We recommend bringing athletic clothing, gym shoes, and a water bottle.

International Undergraduate Student and Family Welcome Day

Description: The International Center will host our annual International Undergraduate Student and Family Welcome Day on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. Attendance at this event is strongly encouraged for both international degree-seeking and exchange undergraduate students and their family members who travel with them to campus. 

Topics will include overviews about cultural adjustment, maintaining immigration status, using your health insurance, and more! This is also an excellent opportunity to meet other new international students!

Description: You bring your graduation cap, we'll provide the supplies! (And dessert!) 

This is a drop-in event and students can stop by whenever during the scheduled time. The IC will be providing fabric paint, jewels, ribbon and other materials that can be used to decorate the top of your graduation cap.

Description: On Tuesday, March 4, 2025 many people in the state of Michigan will celebrate “Paczki Day'' (otherwise known as Fat Tuesday - the day before Ash Wednesday) by eating a jelly-filled pastry called a Paczki. Paczki  (pronounced POONCH-kee) are Polish pastries that bakeries around Michigan and the Midwest will prepare one time per year in celebration of this holiday! In other parts of the United States, Fat Tuesday is recognized by the more widely known Mardi Gras festival.

New Student Welcome Dinner - Winter 2025

Description: Welcome to Michigan! The International Center is excited to welcome you all to campus by hosting a dinner at South Quad Dining Hall. This is a great opportunity to meet other international students who started their programs in the Winter 2025 semester! This is an informal gathering, but please arrive between 6-7pm. From there you can grab some food in the dining hall, and join us in our designated area to eat and mingle.

How to Survive (and Thrive!) in a Michigan Winter

Description: Is this your first time experiencing a cold winter and snow?  Or, maybe this will not be your first winter in Michigan, but you would still like to hear from locals on how to be more comfortable during the winter months.  In this session, we will give you some tips on how to survive a Michigan winter, including what to wear, how to be safe getting around Ann Arbor, what activities you can do, and more!

Food and winter drinks will be provided.
