July 1, 2020: Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed Senate Bills 876-878 which provide an additional extension of valid driver’s licenses and state identification cards that would otherwise expire during the COVID-19 emergency.
- Michigan Driver’s licenses that expired or are set to expire between February 1, 2020 and June 30, 2020 are extended through September 30, 2020 .
- State personal identification cards that expired or are set to expire between February 1, 2020 and June 30, 2020 are extended through September 30, 2020.
May 8, 2020: Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed Executive Order 2020-78 which provides an additional extension of valid driver’s licenses and state identification cards that would otherwise expire during the COVID-19 emergency.
- Michigan Driver’s licenses that expired or are set to expire between February 1, 2020 and June 30, 2020 are extended through July 31, 2020.
- State personal identification cards that expired or are set to expire between February 1, 2020 and June 30, 2020 are extended through July 31, 2020
On April 13, 2020, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed Executive Order 2020-47, temporarily extending the expiration of valid driver’s licenses and state identification cards that would otherwise expire during the COVID-19 emergency. This will be helpful to international students, scholars and employees who have not been able to renew their driver’s licenses or personal identification cards, since the Michigan Secretary of State offices are closed during the COVID-19 emergency.
- Michigan Driver’s licenses that expired or are set to expire between February 1, 2020 and May 31, 2020 are extended through June 30, 2020.
- State personal identification cards that expired or are set to expire between February 1, 2020 and May 31, 2020 are extended through June 30, 2020.
