Summer 2022 Travel Guidance for International Students and Scholars

Before you travel abroad:

• Confirm that you meet the entry requirements for your travel destination(s), and for all flight transfer locations, which may include showing proof of a specific type of negative COVID-19 test, showing proof of being fully vaccinated, etc. Check embassy or consulate websites of your destination(s) for updated information, and be aware that entry requirements can change with little notice.
• Identify suitable COVID-19 test sites before travel.
  • Schedule COVID-19 testing that meets the timetable and testing type requirement of your destination.
  • Consider the time a testing site is open (including holidays and weekends), as well as the timeframe to receive your test results.

    • Washtenaw County and the Michigan statewide websites.
• Confirm that you have the documents needed for re-entry. Request an I-20 or DS-2019 travel signature from the International Center if your current travel signature will be more than one year old when you re-enter the U.S. For OPT students, the travel signature should be no more than 6 months old.
• If you would like to take masks and rapid tests with you: free, rapid at-home antigen COVID-19 tests and KN95 masks are available on campus by presenting an M-Card at select campus testing sites (Palmer Commons, Pierpont Commons, Ross and the 1310 N University Ct building). As you prepare to return to the U.S.:

• Plan for possible travel disruptions and keep your travel arrangements as flexible as possible, since a positive COVID-19 test could require delaying your return.
• Confirm that you meet the requirements to board a flight back to the United States for your return to campus.
• Follow best practices for remaining healthy while traveling and returning to campus. See the CDC How to Protect Yourself & Others for details.
