Welcome back to U-M! As you prepare to return to Ann Arbor:
- Be sure you have all necessary re-entry documents
- Remember that you must have a travel signature on your I-20 or DS-2019 that is no more than one year old WHEN YOU RE-ENTER THE UNITED STATES, or for F-1 students on OPT, not more than six months old.
- F-1 students: If you need to request a new travel signature, go to M-Passport > Requests > Travel Signature and submit your request. Monitor your Requests page so that you will know when your request has been completed. You will then be able to download your signed I-20 with your travel signature. This reprinted I-20 is acceptable for visa appointments and for re-entry to the United States.
- J-1 students: If you need to request a new travel signature go to M-Passport > Requests > DS-2019 Travel Signature Request and submit your request. Monitor your Requests page so that you will know when your request has been completed. You will then be able to download your DS-2019 with your travel signature. This reprinted DS-2019 is acceptable for visa appointments and for re-entry to the United States.
If you try to enter the U.S. without an updated travel signature, you may be issued Form 1-515A at the Port of Entry. This form allows you temporary admission to the United States so that you can obtain and submit your travel signature. However, since Form I-515A is issued at the discretion of the Port of Entry official, the International Center strongly recommends that you confirm that you have all the required re-entry documents before you travel.
Safe Travels!
