Global Engagement and Education Abroad (GEEA)

Stephen Black joins the International Center as the new Peace Corps Campus Recruiter, while continuing his work as a Swahili interpreter in the Ann Arbor/Detroit area. He served as an Education Volunteer with the Peace Corps in Tanzania and has since worked as an engineer and project manager in a variety of capacities and industries including international non-profit, aviation, glass, and medical devices.  He is thrilled to be working with U-M students who are interested in serving with the Peace Corps!

Jake joined the GEEA team in November 2016. Originally from Troy, Michigan, he received his BA in History from the University of Michigan. His interest in international education stemmed from his decision to study abroad in London, England as an undergraduate. After graduating, he taught English in Madrid, Spain for two years. Both of his experiences abroad allowed him to learn about many different cultures by traveling throughout Western Europe, Eastern Europe, and Morocco.

Kelly joined the International Center team in April 2017 and is the Senior Program Manager for Global Engagement and Education Abroad (GEEA). Kelly has lived in Michigan for the majority of her life, but she loves to explore new cultures and places! She has traveled to more than 16 countries, including studying art and opera in Bregenz, Austria as an undergraduate student.

Kelly has an M.Ed. in Higher Education from Loyola University Chicago and a B.A. in Journalism from Michigan State University. She is very passionate about the subject of intercultural competency.

Kelly re-joined the International Center staff in August 2017 after having previously worked as the Education Abroad Coordinator in the International Center from 2008 to 2014. After leaving Ann Arbor in 2014, Kelly worked for the Institute of International Education (IIE) through which she worked closely with international students from Saudi Arabia studying in the United States.
