Winter Term 2021 Enrollment Requirements for International Students

For Winter Term 2021, the Department of Homeland Security's enrollment guidance  for international students will remain the same as it was for  Fall Term 2020.  This means that:

  • Students who have been and will continue studying from within the U.S. are allowed to enroll fully online.  This includes those who began their studies on campus in the Fall.
  • Students whose first semester in the US will be Winter 2021 will need to enroll in at least one in-person or hybrid course. The International Center strongly recommends that this be a 3-credit hour course.   Students can, if they want, download and print this letter to show to consular officers, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers, or airline representatives. The letter explains U-M’s plans for the Winter 2021 semester.

If you have any questions about how this guidance might affect you, please contact the International Center
