Description: Join us as we celebrate international students and scholars with birthdays in July! We'll enjoy cake, coffee, and tea, and we encourage you to bring your friends together to celebrate your birthday! Meet us at the Student Activities Building courtyard located at 515 E Jefferson Street in Ann Arbor. In case of inclement weather, we will meet indoors in the atrium in the same building. Please register in advance so we can plan how much food to order.

Location: Michigan League Garden (Koessler Room if raining)

Description: The International Center and the Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) are excited to host new international students for an Ice Cream Social! 

This is a great opportunity to meet other new international students, enjoy an ice cream sundae and play some fun outdoor games! 

If it rains, the location will be moved to the Koessler room of the League.

Great Lakes Crossing Trip - Feb 2025

Location: Great Lakes Crossing Outlets (Auburn Hills, Michigan)

Cost: $10/person for round trip transportation. NO REFUNDS. You will need to bring money for food and shopping. Students, scholars, friends, and families are welcome. Same price for all, regardless of age (children 2 and under are free, provided they sit on a lap and do not take up a seat on the bus). All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Peace Corps & optiMize Mentor Event

Description: During this event, Returned Peace Corps Volunteers will serve as mentors to their optiMize undergraduate Social Innovatoin Challenge teams. Student teams will present their project ideas and mentors will provide advice, support, and feedback to teams on challenges they may face in their social impact project. RPCVs will have the opportunity to share about their service experience and do some interactive role-playing with student teams about challenges they will face when doing social engagement work in communities around the world.

Description: During this training, participants will learn how to put their volunteer and international service experiences into resumes, cover letters, and motivation statements which can be used to apply for jobs in the public and non-profit sectors and for post-graduate service opportunities. Participants will also hear about what it is like to serve in the Peace Corps, how to prepare yourself for international service work as an undergraduate, and things to consider when doing service work when you are an outsider in that community.

Description: IC advisors will provide updates on any changes to immigration regulations, guidance, or procedures that affect F-1 and J-1 exchange visitors. They will also answer questions about a number of topics in the news, including the proposed rule changes to “duration of status” and H-1B status, nonimmigrant visa processing, and OPT.
